Research Ethics Digest

About Research Ethics Digest

PRIM&R’s Research Ethics Digest, an electronic publication, is a member benefit that delivers timely and relevant abstracts and full-text articles from a wide array of scholarly journals to PRIM&R members via email every two months. Articles featured in Research Ethics Digest highlight new research and scholarship related to ethics and regulation of both human subjects research and animal care and use. These articles can provide insight on issues and developments that impact daily work, provide starting points for discussion with colleagues, and aid in professional development. Each issue includes discussion guides, with thought-provoking questions focused on selected animal care and use or human research protections articles. Use the discussion guide to facilitate an educational session, or to enhance personal in-depth learning and analysis.

How to Participate

The publication also includes the Research Ethics Digest Self-Study Program. Read the articles in Research Ethics Digest and successfully complete one or both of the accompanying online quizzes with scores of 80% or higher to earn continuing education credits, which can be applied toward the Certified IRB Professional (CIP®) credential, Certified Professional in IACUC Administration (CPIA®) credential recertification, or other professional credentials.

Self-Study Program

By reading the articles included in Research Ethics Digest and successfully completing the online quiz with a score of 80% or higher, members earn continuing education (CE) credit hours (1.5 per issue for the human subjects protections quiz and 1 per issue for the animal care and use quiz). The quiz consists of 10-15 multiple-choice questions, and should take about 30 minutes to complete after the articles have been read. Members can take the quiz multiple times in order to receive a qualifying score, and have 90 days from the distribution of an issue of Research Ethics Digest to complete the quiz.

Once members complete the quiz, they will receive an email with their score and the number of CE credit hours they have earned. Participants who wish to apply the credit hours from the self-study program toward continuing education requirements for professional credentials they hold may submit the email to their accrediting body as documentation of their participation.
