PRIM&R Partners
PRIM&R partners help advance ethical research by leveraging our combined strengths. We are proud to bring together stakeholders from like-minded organizations to explore topics relevant to advancing ethical research across disciplines.
Artificial Intelligence (AI)/Machine Learning (ML)/Big Data IRB Collaborative Working Group
Recognizing a gap in HRPP/IRB guidance related to AI/ML/Big Data research, we formed a collaborative effort with 14 other institutions and PRIM&R. The group aims to develop guidance for our respective HRPPs, with an emphasis on IRB review processes of AI Tool protocols, which will then be shared widely with other institutions. The Working Group includes subgroups to address various aspects of the challenges posed by research studies proposing to use, develop, validate, or implement an AI-based intervention.
Ethics of Research with Human Subjects in the Digital Age
A PRIM&R and Drexel University Collaboration
An interdisciplinary working group explores the fundamental questions whether the current ethical framework is adequate for protecting human research participants in the digital age and to develop educational resources for the scientific community and the public.
In a rapidly changing landscape in which personal information is routinely collected, analyzed, managed, and shared combined with people’s changing perceptions about privacy of personal information raises questions about the suitability of the prevailing ethical framework for research with human participants – the Belmont Principles.
AAALAC International
PRIM&R is a proud member organization of AAALAC International, reflecting our shared commitment to advancing animal well-being in science and education. AAALAC International’s Member Organizations represent a select group of respected scientific, professional, and educational associations dedicated to promoting high standards of animal care and use. Through this membership, PRIM&R supports the responsible, ethical conduct of animal research and the continuous improvement of oversight practices that protect animal welfare while enabling high-quality science.
Pediatric Inclusion Alliance
The Pediatric Inclusion Alliance, a collaboration between PRIM&R and Leavitt Partners, is committed to advancing a future in which every child with a disease or condition can live to their fullest potential through timely and appropriate inclusion in clinical research. The Alliance’s mission is to advance multistakeholder, consensus-based policy workstreams that promote the earliest feasible pediatric inclusion in clinical trials for drugs, biologics, and devices across all diseases and conditions, while maintaining rigorous standards for participant safety.
International Society for Biological and Environmental Repositories
PRIM&R collaborates with the International Society for Biological and Environmental Repositories (ISBER) to advance best practices in the ethical stewardship of biological and environmental specimens. ISBER is a global professional society dedicated to addressing the technical, legal, and ethical challenges associated with biobanking and repository management. Through this collaboration, PRIM&R and ISBER support high-quality science by promoting responsible governance, regulatory compliance, and ethical oversight of biospecimen research.
Multi-Regional Clinical Trials
PRIM&R collaborates with the Multi-Regional Clinical Trials (MRCT) Center of Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard to advance ethical, efficient, and globally harmonized clinical research. The MRCT Center brings together diverse stakeholders to develop actionable, consensus-based solutions that address complex challenges in clinical trials, including participant protection, data integrity, and regulatory alignment. Through this collaboration, PRIM&R supports efforts to strengthen trust in research and promote high standards of ethical oversight across regions and research settings.
