PRIM&R Announces New Board Members for 2024

BOSTON – Public Responsibility in Medicine and Research (PRIM&R) today announced the addition of four new board members for PRIM&R. The combination of board members will provide a broad base of experience to help PRIM&R continue to build trust in scientific research and further advance PRIM&R’s mission of advancing the highest ethical standards in the conduct of research.
The new board members are: Linda Coleman, JD, CIP, CHC, CHRC, CCEP-I, who serves as Director of the Human Research Protection Program at Yale University; Amanda Dettmer, PhD, a research scientist at the Yale Child Study Center, where she leads the Human and Animal Integrated Research (HAIR) Lab; Alex John London, PhD, who serves as K&L Gates Professor of Ethics and Computational Technologies, the Director of the Center for Ethics and Policy and the Chief Ethicist at the Block Center for Technology and Society at Carnegie Mellon University; and Guy B. Mulder, DVM, MS, MBA, DACLAM, who serves as the Executive Director of Veterinary and Professional Services for Research Models and Services at Charles River Laboratories.

Each new member brings a wealth of experience and expertise that will undoubtedly enrich our organization,” said PRIM&R Executive Director Ivy R. Tillman, EdD, CCRC, CIP. “Their commitment to advancing research ethics aligns with PRIM&R’s longstanding values. Together, we will work to ensure all who contribute to and benefit from research embrace ethics, welfare, inclusion, and trust as central to science and medicine.”
“As someone who conducts research with both humans and nonhuman animals, I am keenly aware of the important educational, advocacy, and credentialing work PRIM&R does to maintain and promote the highest ethical standards in all types of research, and to educate myriad stakeholders in research ethics,” said Dr. Dettmer. “I am excited to contribute to this critical work over the next three years.”
“Creating and preserving trust in the research enterprise has never been more important and I’m honored to have the opportunity to contribute to PRIM&R’s mission of promoting trust and integrity in research,” said Dr. London, who authored “For the Common Good: Philosophical Foundations of Research Ethics (OUP).”
Dr. Mulder said, “I have been a member of PRIM&R for many years and I am excited to contribute to the organization as a member of the BOD.”
“I am honored to have the opportunity to serve on the board of Public Responsibility in Medicine and Research and look forward to contributing to PRIM&R’s important mission,” Ms. Coleman said. “I believe that as a research community, we can strive to make a meaningful difference by ensuring ethical and responsible research practices.”
Each of the new board members began a three-year term on the PRIM&R Board of Directors in January 2024.
