PRIM&R Service Award
The PRIM&R Service Award was created by the PRIM&R Board of Directors to recognize individuals who have provided significant timely or timeless service to the human subjects protections or animal care and use communities that are at the core of PRIM&R. That service could be in teaching, mentorship, innovation, leadership, engagement, program improvement, or research. The intention of the award is to recognize the many and varied ways that people can have a significant impact on the field—awardees may be recognized for their long-time commitment or for one-time innovations and projects, whether early in their careers or after a lifetime of service.
Nominate A Colleague
Nominators should keep the following in mind:
- PRIM&R membership is not required to be eligible for the award.
- Provide as much detail as possible about why and how the person you are nominating has in your view had a significant impact on the field and deserves the award.
- PRIM&R is committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice, and encourages nominations that recognize contributions in this area and people from underrepresented communities.
- Current PRIM&R Board of Directors are not eligible for the PRIM&R Service Award while on the PRIM&R Board of Directors or for one year after they roll off the Board.
- Please refrain from submitting multiple nominations for the same individual as it does not increase their likelihood of being selected as the recipient.
The recipient of the PRIM&R Service Award will be notified by mid-summer, and the announcement of the award recipient will be made in the fall.

The Pillars of PRIM&R Outstanding Poster Award
Established in 2007, the Pillars of PRIM&R Outstanding Poster Award acknowledges projects or efforts designed to improve HRPPs/IRBs, animal care and use programs, or other oversight and compliance programs through better education, tools, procedures, and practices that contribute to empirical research or scholarship in the research ethics field.
The award is given in honor of the Pillars of PRIM&R, a separate designation given to honor highly respected and incredibly devoted members of our Board of Directors and/or PRIM&R members and volunteers.
PRIM&R has a Poster Presentation Program for the PRIM&R Annual Conference. Each year, one abstract may be selected to be designated as the "Pillars of PRIM&R Outstanding Poster Award Recipient."
Features of the Award include:
- Complimentary conference registration, two nights’ hotel accommodation for the lead poster author, and a one-year complimentary PRIM&R membership.
- Recognition on-site at the PRIM&R Annual Conference via a certificate on recipients' poster board, and acknowledgement in the online conference platform.
- A certificate for each poster author.
- The opportunity for poster authors to present their results in a PRIM&R Member Newsletter article or Ampersand blog post.
Evaluation Criteria
All poster abstracts submitted to the conference Poster Presentation Program are automatically considered for the Pillars of PRIM&R Outstanding Poster Award. The winning abstract is selected by the Poster Review Committee based on the following criteria:
- The project is relevant to PRIM&R’s mission to advance the ethical conduct of research through education, research, scholarship, or the development of resources and processes that support the work of the oversight community.
- The project improves the work of research ethics oversight professionals or brings new research findings and scholarship to the field.
- The project presents novel initiatives, approaches, and/or information to the field.
