David Matesanz, JD, CIP

Senior Counsel for Research, Apple

Bio

David Matesanz, JD, CIP, is Senior Counsel for Research at Apple, where he works with researchers across multiple teams at Apple to safeguard the rights and protect the safety of research participants. In this role, he offers counsel on state research regulations, corporate practice of medicine, and the development of research policies. David is also a legal advisor to Apple’s internal research ethics board. David served on the Council for Accreditation of IRB Professionals (CIP Council), which is responsible for overseeing the examination content, eligibility criteria, and recertification procedures for the Certified IRB Professional credential. Previously, he also served on the Diversity Advisory Group of PRIM&R. Prior to his current role, David held the position of Director of the Institutional Review Board and Research Compliance for Kaiser Permanente, the health insurer and hospital system in Northern California. In this capacity, he also served as Financial Conflicts of Interest Officer. David previously held positions within the Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) and IRB at Duke University Health System, where he served as Director of Research Review and as an IRB Vice Chair. David is licensed to practice law in the State of New York and is registered as an In-House Counsel in the State of California. He holds a JD from Fordham University and a bachelor’s degree in economics from Brown University.
