How to Complete the CPIA® CE Tracker

Use the CPIA® Continuing Education (CE) Tracker to record the eligible continuing education activities you complete during your five-year certification period.
The tracker is an Excel file. Complete and save the file in Excel format for submission.

Step 1: Know Your CE Requirements

To recertify by continuing education, you must complete 50 hours of eligible CE during your five-year certification period.
At least 40 hours must cover topics within the CPIA® Body of Knowledge/Content Outline as they relate to IACUC administration. Up to 10 hours may come from other eligible professional development activities.

Step 2: Record Your Activities

Complete the CEU Tracker tab of the spreadsheet. The credit totals will automatically populate in the Credit Hours tab. For each activity, record the requested information and retain documentation showing your participation.

Attended a PRIM&R Annual Conference?

Enter the conference year as one line on your CE Tracker using the total number of eligible credit hours earned. You do not need to enter each individual conference session separately. Keep your certificate of attendance as supporting documentation.

Step 3: Keep Supporting Documentation

Keep documentation for every CE activity listed on your tracker.Documentation should identify the:
  • Program or activity
  • Sponsor
  • Date attended
  • Number of credit hours earned
For programs with concurrent sessions, your documentation should also show which sessions you attended. Tip: Update your tracker and save your documentation as you complete CE activities rather than waiting until your recertification deadline.

Step 4: Review Your Totals

Before submitting your tracker, confirm that you have:
  • 50 or more eligible CE hours
  • At least 40 hours related to IACUC administration and the CPIA® Body of Knowledge/Content Outline
  • Supporting documentation for each activity
