About the CIP® Council
The Council for Certification of IRB Professionals (CIP® Council) is charged with overseeing the examination content, eligibility guidelines, and recertification guidelines for the Certified IRB Professional credential. The CIP Council is made up of a group of certified, volunteer subject-matter experts who reflect the diversity of skills, expertise, and backgrounds of the HRPP/IRB field. The CIP® Council works closely with both PRIM&R and with PSI, the company that provides professional testing and management services, in developing exam questions and examinations.
Council member responsibilities include drafting and editing exam questions; reviewing exam forms; and reviewing exam and recertification applications. The CIP® Council works with PRIM&R and PSI to ensure that exam content, as well as the eligibility and recertification criteria, align with current practice.
The CIP® Council is overseen by the Certification Committee of the PRIM&R Board of Directors. The Certification Committee puts out calls for new members approximately every eighteen months. Council members serve three-year terms, with an option to renew.
