Establishing an Effective Research Ethics Education Program
Research ethics education is sometimes mandated, and almost always a good idea. However, there is little consistency among training requirements (where they exist) and among responsible conduct of research (RCR) educational programs. This course will provide an overview of RCR training requirements, and current best practices, and an introduction to the many resources available for building an RCR educational program. Participants will learn what elements of RCR education have been shown to be effective, and how to determine if a program is successful. Some key elements for creating a sustainable program include determining your institution’s needs and resources, and deciding whether your program should meet or go beyond existing regulatory requirements. How can you obtain buy-in from your stakeholders? How can your program not only ensure compliance, but go further to create a climate of responsible research?
