SBER21 and AER21

Each fall, PRIM&R hosts its Advancing Ethical Research (AER) Conference, which is geared toward those working in human subjects protections, research ethics, and oversight. This event brings together 2,500 professionals from public and private institutions, the federal government, industry, and academia, to learn, deconstruct, discuss, and debate, and to network with colleagues in the field.

Through a series of keynotes, panels, breakout sessions, and networking events, attendees will learn about ethical issues and the federal regulations governing human subjects research, best practices for the review and monitoring of research, implementing the revised Common Rule, single IRB, and other late-breaking topics. The day before the AER Conference starts, we’ll offer several preconference programs offering an in-depth exploration on timely topics.

In 2021, we will also offer our Social, Behavioral, and Educational Research (SBER) Conference the day before the AER Conference starts. Join 500 of your colleagues working in this area to learn and discuss challenging and timely issues in the review, administration, and oversight of social behavioral research.

The 2021 annual conference schedule is as follows:

  • November 18: AER21 Preconference Programs
  • November 18: 2021 Social, Behavioral, and Educational Research (SBER) Conference
  • November 19-21: 2021 Advancing Ethical Research (AER) Conference

This meeting is scheduled to take place in Orlando, FL. Registration will open and the agendas will be available in early June 2021.

Statement on COVID-19: PRIM&R is monitoring developments related to COVID-19 and in person gatherings. PRIM&R’s first priority is the safety and well-being of its constituents and the public. These meetings will contain a virtual option for those unable to travel. Updates on the status and format of AER and SBER 21 will be posted on this webpage.

Call for Session Proposal Program

Do you have an idea for a session that you would like to see featured on the 2021 AER and/or SBER Conference agendas? If so, we encourage you to contribute to the AER\SBER21 Call for Conference Session Proposals Program. Your input will ensure the Conference Planning Committees consider a broad and rich spectrum of topics and speakers.

Review the Call for Session Proposals Program guidelines here. This document includes information on session types, proposal requirements, terms and conditions, frequently asked questions and more.

Submit a proposal here. Proposals must be submitted by February 5, 2021. Submissions received after this date will not be considered.

Important Program Note: Given the uncertainty around COVID-19 and in person gatherings, accepted proposals may be presented live, streamed virtually, or both. Information on the format of the meeting will be available by June 2021. You may submit your preferences in presenting on the submission form; we’ll do our best to accommodate preferences of accepted proposals.

If you have questions about the submission process, contact Erica Guillama, conference coordinator.

Call for Poster Abstracts

The 2021 event will include an in person and virtual poster gallery/interaction with poster authors (see statement above about COVID-19 and in person gatherings).

If your institution has an innovative program related to the successful work of HRPPs/IRBs, or if you are conducting empirical research on or conceptual analyses of topics or questions relevant to human subjects research, consider participating in the AER21 Poster Presentation Program. Submissions are now open and will remain open until April 26. Contact Clare Ladd with questions.

Supporter and Exhibitor Program

The 2021 event will include an in person and virtual exhibit hall/interaction with our vendors (see statement above about COVID-19 and in person gatherings). Information on the Supporter and Exhibitor Program will be online by March 2021. Contact Mariellen Morris with questions.
