Public Policy Take Action
Tell Congress: Public Safety Depends on the Integrity of Research Oversight
PRIM&R is committed to protecting the integrity of research, which is why we joined a growing national coalition, led by Research!America, to urge a bipartisan group of U.S. House of Representatives and U.S Senate Appropriations Committee leaders to “prioritize robust funding for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the Fiscal Year 2025 appropriations bill.”
The letter included legislative language that would prevent the administration from moving forward with changes to indirect cost reimbursement (15% indirect cost cap) at the NIH, which would reduce NIH funding by billions of dollars, if implemented, and would have immediate and harmful consequences.
The coalition letter to Congress made clear:
“The Administration’s proposed policy to drastically reduce NIH funding by at least $4 billion would have immediate and harmful consequences—slowing scientific progress, delaying treatments and cures, and weakening the U.S. research ecosystem. NIH funding is a key driver of economic growth, job creation, and medical breakthroughs, and this policy change would hinder our ability to remain globally competitive.
We must maintain the integrity of research oversight, and that requires congressional support for adequate funding. Cutting funds weakens ethical frameworks and can hinder scientific progress and delay the availability of crucial therapies and cures, directly jeopardizing public health.”

Your Voice Matters.
Join us in contacting Congress to emphasize that public safety relies on strong research oversight and robust NIH funding. Efforts to reduce NIH funding threaten an effective oversight process and undermine ethical scientific research.
We cannot stand by while important research and scientific integrity is threatened.

What To Say
When reaching out, keep your message clear, concise, and impactful.
🔹 We must maintain the integrity of research oversight, and that requires congressional support for adequate funding.
🔹 Make clear that cuts to NIH funding would harm scientific progress and public health. This means delaying the discovery of new treatments, preventing medical progress, and undermining our country's ability to tackle current and future health challenges. This is a public safety issue.
🔹 Call upon Congress to fight for nonpartisan, evidence-based research policies.
