It's Time!
Recertification by Continuing Education Credit
April 2025
For many of you, January marks the start of new recertification period through continuing education.
Now it's April! How did time move that fast! It's time to start earning eligible CE credits.
The question of how to earn credits and what are eligible credits comes up frequently. Some of you might assume the answer is straightforward and consider skipping ahead. Others might wonder about the answer to this seemly simple question. I mean, if it is important enough to publish in PRIM&R This Week newsletter there must be something to it!
For both CIP® and CPIA® recertification, the key requirement is that CE topics align with the Body of Knowledge/Content Outline (BoK). However, for CIP recertification, credits must also go beyond the initial, basic or fundamental level of knowledge.
To ensure you’re on the right track refer to the official guidelines.
For CIP® recertification, credits must be found within the BoK and be beyond the initial, basic, or fundamental level of knowledge.
CIP® Continuing Education
The CIP® continuing education guidelines require 30 hours of eligible credit from topics found within the BoK that are beyond initial, basic, or fundamental level of knowledge.
At least 15 of those thirty eligible credits must be from programs pre-recognized by the CIP Council such as programs sponsored by PRIM&R, AAHRP, OHRP or carry accreditation through ACCME, ACPE, or other professional societies or state licensure agencies. These hours must also fall within the BoK and be beyond the basic level of knowledge.
