Overview
Join us for a Flash Learn session focused on the Veterans Affairs (VA) research system. We will help you discover how this federal agency contributes to transformative medical breakthroughs that impact veterans and the broader health care field. Grow your knowledge and learn how VA Research fits into the larger mission of the VA and how local research structures, such as R&D Committees, IRBs, and the Veterans Research and Education Foundation (VREF), play essential roles in administering both VA-funded and externally funded studies. This session will also clarify complex VA terminology and processes, helping you navigate the VA research environment with confidence.

Emilee Nealy, MSW
PRIM&R Conference Coordinator
Emilee earned her Master of Social Work from Western Kentucky University and brings extensive experience supporting ethical research practices in both federal and community-based settings. Prior to joining PRIM&R, she worked with the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Veterans Research and Education Foundation, where she assisted study teams with regulatory submissions, policy interpretation, and the implementation of human subjects protections across multi-site studies. Emilee has a strong background in IRB navigation and research ethics education and is especially committed to fostering trust within research systems—a focus she brings to her current role at PRIM&R.
