Human Research Protection Programs
An institution’s Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) is the entity responsible for the ethical and safe conduct of research involving human participants. It includes an Institutional Review Board (IRB) which is a committee responsible for reviewing, approving, and monitoring research protocols to ensure the study meets ethical standards and adheres to federal, state and local regulations.
The goal of an HRPP is to safeguard participants while enabling valuable research to be conducted responsibly and ethically. PRIM&R’s networking opportunities and educational programming are designed for HRPP/IRB professionals grappling with challenges that extend beyond basic day-to-day operations. Through certification, membership, year-long educational programming, and regional and annual conferences, PRIM&R has become the professional home for those working in this field.
